Financial aid awards are given to qualifying families in the Club. It is important to note that not all families that apply for aid, receive assistance. It is also important to note that no family receives an award that covers 100% of the cost of participation in FC Boulder.
We follow very strict procedures in awarding financial aid, guided in part by IRS regulations governing the financial activity of non-profit entities. Families must submit an application to the Club for consideration of an award. The application contains information about the family – number of children living at home, income verification, work history, etc. As part of the application, we require those children of appropriate age to submit an essay about the importance of soccer in their young lives. The gross income of a family must be less than $55,000 in order to be eligible to apply for financial assistance.
A three-member committee, approved by the FC Boulder Board of Directors, evaluates the pool of applications, with a minimum of two reviewers evaluating every application. If the maximum thresholds for yearly income are not exceeded, and all other elements of the application are in order, the application is categorized based on a matrix that considers yearly family income, as well as the number of family members living in the household. (The FC Boulder matrix for financial aid awards is based largely on a similar evaluative tool used by the YMCA for their scholarship program.)
Financial aid awards are distributed to qualifying families according to the aid category into which their application was placed. For example, the applications of those families in greatest need of assistance will be placed in Category 1. Those families who still qualify for aid but may not be in as much need as others (e.g., they may not have as many children in the household as another family) may be placed in Category 3 based on the calculations of the evaluation matrix. Actual dollar amounts per category will be determined based on the amount of money available in the Financial Aid Fund for each category. It is important to note that no financial aid recipient receives more than a 70% in aid toward the cost of participation in FC Boulder.
