Opportunity… What a powerful construct.
In the game of soccer, this word — opportunity — is commonplace in the jargon of coaches.
“Create opportunities.”
“Take your opportunities.”
“We just didn’t take advantage of our opportunities.”
“Don’t give them any opportunity.”
While this word frequently appears in the discourse of our FC Boulder coaches as well, we also believe it takes on a much greater meaning in the larger context of our Club. We think of opportunity in broader ways as well…
Opportunity to learn…
Opportunity to grow…
Opportunity for success…
Opportunity to connect…
We strive to make our Club one that offers opportunities for all players to develop as athletes, and more importantly, as human beings. The game of soccer is a great equalizer. You don’t have to be the strongest, the fastest, the quickest or the tallest to be successful in this game. You just need the opportunity to play. Around the world, soccer is often considered the game of the common person. One needs only a ball and some space to experience the joy of the game.
At FC Boulder, we do not believe access to our Club — to participation in soccer — should be limited by economic status. And yet, there are very real, and rising, costs to participate in organized youth sports. We hope that you will join us in helping to make soccer experiences for families a reality, such that they can benefit from the many opportunities that come from playing the game.
